Extremely resistant materials and components are essential in hydraulic engineering and harbour construction. Depending on the application, they may need to withstand corrosive salt water, strong UV radiation and high mechanical stresses. We offer plastics that are designed specifically for these demanding requirements. They are used, for instance, in the construction of powerful locks and resistant fenders right across the world, from the Panama Canal to Venice.
Long-lasting: resistant to corrosive salt water, UV radiation and weathering
High mechanical toughness
Low water absorption
Typical areas of application
Fish screen installations
Sea water desalination plants
Durostone® fasteners in the field of hydraulic engineering and port construction
Durostone® fasteners are particularly resistant to corrosive salt water and are very UV and weather-resistant. They are used in hydraulic engineering and harbour construction applications such as sea water desalination plants.
Beams for bateas made of Polystone® G black HD
In Galicia, mussels grow on mussel rafts called 'bateas' with beams made of Polystone® G black HD. Polystone® G black HD offers high resistance to aggressive salt water as well as high UV resistance for long-term durability in strong sunlight. Compared to conventional materials such as wood, plastic carriers are particularly durable and low-maintenance.
Mounted on fender systems, sliding sheets made of our material Polystone® M protect quay bulkheads and ships during mooring and harbour manoeuvring and during idle periods. The ready-to-mount sheets are characterized by high abrasion and wear resistance and are resistant to corrosion, UV radiation and weathering.
Slide elements for lock gates
In locks steel gates weighing tonnes have to be moved quickly and reliably. Thanks to their excellent slide properties, special slide rails made of our material Polystone® M slide allow gates to be moved reliably with little use of energy. Slide rails made of Röchling materials are used in lock systems everywhere, from the Panama Canal to Venice.
Arrange technical advice
The performance and service life of materials used in hydraulic engineering and harbour construction are influenced by a variety of factors. These criteria need to be considered in order to make the right choice. Examples:
Contact with salt water
External influences such as UV radiation and weathering
Dimensions and tolerances
