Faster and easier manufacturing of rectangular tanks for outdoor use

Polystone® CubX® product range: Available in the new UV-resistant version Polystone® P CubX® white UV (right), the flame-resistant version Polystone® PPs CubX® (top) and as Polystone® P CubX® – each available in the user-friendly 2,000 x 1,500 mm format with a thickness of 57 mm

Suitable for outdoor use: With Polystone® P CubX® white UV, Röchling now offers a UV-resistant version of Polystone® P CubX®, a tank construction sheet developed in 2018

Polystone® CubX®: With an optimised rigidity/weight ratio at a very low weight

Polystone® CubX® has very high transverse and longitudinal rigidity: Depending on the size of the tank, these qualities enable tank builders to dispense entirely with steel reinforcement; considerable time can be saved as a result

Polystone® P CubX® white UV – New tank construction sheet available in UV-resistant version

Haren/Germany, 16th July 2019 | New possibilities for tank builders: Röchling Engineering Plastics SE & Co. KG based in Haren, Germany, now offers Polystone® P CubX® white UV, a UV-resistant version of Polystone® P CubX®, a tank construction sheet developed in 2018. With this Röchling meets widespread customer demand for a UV-resistant version designed for long-term use outdoors. Polystone® P CubX® white UV enables designers to reduce the use of steel reinforcements in outdoor rectangular tanks. This saves time and resources.

In 2018, Röchling developed Polystone® P CubX®, a completely new tank construction sheet specially designed for the construction of rectangular tanks. The design is what makes it unique: Polystone® P CubX® is a cross ribbed twin-wall sheet with an internal cubiform cell structure. Its interior consists of a homogeneous, orthogonal grid pattern welded on the outside to two sheets, which form the surface of the finished sheet. The result is an innovative construction sheet with very high longitudinal and transverse rigidity.

Faster and easier construction

Compared to solid plastic sheets, rectangular tanks made from Polystone® P CubX® require very little or no steel reinforcement depending on the size. This enables faster and easier construction. The sheet is also suitable for permanent contact with a large number of different chemicals, thanks to the proven chemical resistance of Polystone® P CubX® cover sheets.

High UV resistance

Due to high demand, Röchling has now developed Polystone® P CubX® white UV, a version with high UV resistance. It is particularly suited for applications that have to withstand sustained UV radiation. Examples include process tanks for chemical media, fish breeding tanks, constructions in swimming pool area, and applications with strict requirements for impact resistance, especially at low temperatures.

In response to market feedback

Matthias Klein, Product Manager for CubX®, explains: “Many interested parties have asked us about a UV-resistant version. We were happy to accommodate this request by developing Polystone® P CubX® white UV. It allows tank builders to reduce the use of steel reinforcements, including in outdoor tanks.”

Cover sheet made of polypropylene copolymer

The cover sheet of Polystone® P CubX® white UV consists of a polypropylene copolymer (PP-B) that offers not only high UV-resistance, but also high strength, very good resistance to corrosion and chemicals and exceptional toughness at temperatures as low as -30°C.

A new standard for rectangular tanks

In developing the UV-resistant version, Röchling remains true to its strategy of simplifying the construction of rectangular tanks for as many areas of application as possible with CubX®. After Röchling brought Polystone® P CubX® to market in 2018, the spring of 2019 saw the introduction of Polystone® PPs CubX®, a flame-resistant version for use in areas with heightened safety requirements. Both versions have a cover sheet made of polypropylene homopolymer (PP-H).

Positive feedback from a conservative market

Röchling collaborated closely with tank builders in designing and developing Polystone® P CubX®, and made full use of their experience.

After the market launch, Röchling presented Polystone® P CubX® for the first time in 2018 to an international audience of specialists at three trade fairs: Surface Technology in Stuttgart, ACHEMA in Frankfurt and Intergalva in Berlin. The visitors were very interested in the innovation and scrutinised it critically. Matthias Klein: “We had detailed discussions with many interested parties about the characteristics of the product. Experience has shown that tank and plant builders heavily emphasise safety for good reasons and don’t utilise new products unreservedly. Today, numerous products show that we are headed in the right direction. Polystone® CubX® is used in many applications. And we often receive requests to equip the sheet with defined properties for specific applications. We are happy to comply with these requests. Our goal is to simplify the manufacture of rectangular tanks for as many applications as possible.”

Polystone® P CubX® white UV is available as standard ex stock in the user-friendly 2,000 x 1,500 mm format, with a thickness of 57 mm, in the colour white (RAL 9010).

Product range extended

With this development Röchling is further extending its expertise in the field of chemical tank and plant building. Röchling plastics have been in use for decades in the construction of chemical tanks and plants. Röchling offers a complete system consisting of sheet materials, U profiles, tubes and different welding rods, as well as the tried and proven RITA® tank calculation program. In addition, Röchling has extensive databases and many years of experience in chemical resistance and the successful use of plastics.
