User-Oriented Design for Ophthalmic Spray Applications

When Precision Meets Ease of Use

Ophthalmic applications place high demands on the precision and control of drug delivery.

Particularly in spray systems, precise positioning, stable device guidance and intuitive operation are essential to enable user-friendly application in the sensitive eye area. Our goal was therefore to develop a dispenser concept that combines precise alignment, ergonomic handling and variant-specific protection and positioning functions in one compact system.

Application Safety Designed Into the Product

In developing the Ophthalmic Spray Dispenser System, the focus was on safe and intuitive application in the sensitive eye area. Röchling Medical analyzed the requirements for positioning, device guidance, operation and protection, and translated them into a compact, functional dispenser concept.

The result is a system approach that does more than technically enable application: it actively supports it through stable device guidance, simple actuation and functions that provide either protection or additional positioning support, depending on the design variant.

Two Variants, One System Concept

The Ophthalmic Spray Dispenser System was developed as a flexible system concept. Both variants feature a fixed nozzle for precise focusing in front of the eye as well as an ergonomic housing design with thumb actuation. This supports precise application – regardless of whether the system is used while standing, sitting or lying down.

The first design variant features a rotating cap with locking function. It protects the nozzle and supports a clear handling sequence. The second design variant adds an integrated, funnel-shaped Eye Support. It supports positioning at the eye and helps keep the eyelids in place during application. A small window in the Eye Support allows light to enter and supports upward gaze guidance.

The current concept is designed for different variants of Röchling Medical’s standard container series and can also be flexibly adapted to customer-specific containers. In addition, the option for independent container replacement is technically feasible, enabling potential reuse of the dispenser system.
