Collected data and purpose of processing

If you are merely using the website for information (i.e., you do not register or otherwise provide us with information), we only collect the personal data that your browser needs to transmit to our server. If you wish to view our website, we collect the following information that is technically necessary for us to display our website and to ensure its stability and safety (the legal basis is the first sentence under item f) of Article 6(1) of the GDPR):

This information will be evaluated anonymously. The data is used to improve the attractiveness, contents and functionality of our website. You may withdraw this consent at any time.

Disclosure of personal data to third parties

As a rule, we do not pass on information to third parties. In order to process contact enquiries using contact forms on the website, however, enquiries may be forwarded to service providers/cooperation partners or third parties. Use of cookies

We use cookies, i.e. small files containing configuration information. They help determine user preferences and implement special user functions. We do not collect personal information through cookies. If you do not want us to recognize your device, please configure your Internet browser to erase all cookies from your device, block all cookies or receive a warning before a cookie is stored. All of the website's functions will work without cookies, although some user-defined properties and settings may not be available.

Use of cookies:

This website uses the following types of cookies, and the scope and function of these cookies are explained below:

–             Transient cookies (see a)

–             Persistent cookies (see b).

a)            Transient cookies are automatically deleted when you close your browser. They include, in particular, session cookies. Session cookies store a session identifier that can be used to assign various inquiries from your browser during the shared session. This allows your computer to be recognized when it returns to the website. Session cookies are deleted when you log out or close the browser.

b)           Persistent cookies are automatically deleted after a specified time period, which can vary depending on the cookie. You can delete these cookies in the security settings of your browser at any time.

You can configure your browser setting based on your preferences and refuse to accept third-party cookies or all cookies, for example, but please be aware that you might not be able to use all the functions of this website.

We use cookies to identify you on return visits if you have an account with us. Otherwise, you would have to log in again each time you visit.

The flash cookies in use here are not captured in your browser, but rather in your flash plug-in. We also use HTML5 storage objects, which are stored on your device. These storage objects store the required data regardless of your browser and do not have an automatic expiration date. If you do not want flash cookies processing, you can install an appropriate addon for your browser. The use of HTML5 storage objects may prevent you from turning on privacy mode in your browser. We also recommend that you regularly delete your cookies and browser history manually.

Matomo

We use Matomo (formerly Piwik), an open-source web-analysis tool (https://matomo.org/), to collect and store data for marketing and optimization purposes. This data can be used to create usage profiles under a pseudonym. Cookies (or cookie-like files), which are small text files stored locally in the website visitor’s browser cache, can be used here. These text files enable the Internet browser to be recognised. The data gathered using Matomo is stored under a pseudonym and can neither be used to identify a visitor of this website personally, nor can it be it merged with personal data via the carrier of the pseudonym (e.g. use of our shopping cart).

If you do not consent to the storage and evaluation of this pseudonymized data from your visit, you can object to its storage and use below.

A deactivation cookie is then stored in your browser. This means that Matomo will not gather any session data whatsoever. (Note: If you delete your cookies manually, the deactivation cookie will also be deleted and you may need to activate it again the next time you visit.)

Matomo also supports the “Do Not Track” setting in current web browsers. If you want to stop your online behavior from being analyzed, we recommend that you activate this option in your browser.

EMETRIQ (will be used exclusively on the German-language "Biopolymer" page on a test basis from June 2021)

What data are collected by emetriq, what purposes are they used for and how long are they stored?

emetriq is a provider of targeting services in connection with online advertising. Targeting is defined as focusing online marketing on one target group specifically. For this purpose, emetriq operates a database designed to improve the quality of targeting significantly so that advertisers can show you adverts tailored to your interests.

Purpose of data use
For the performance of the services of emetriq. emetriq can use the data to recognise you with a cookie and show you adverts and content based on your probable characteristics and interests. By means of statistical extrapolation, emetriq uses the data to form target group segments with which the partners of emetriq are able to personalise and improve their websites, applications and promotional messages.

The following data are used:

  • Cookie ID
  • Technical parameters of your browser such as your browser identifier, operating system, screen resolution, device classes and device manufacturer
  • Surfing habits on partner websites in the form of URLs and referrer URLs – for example, what categories of news and what news articles you have viewed
  • Potentially customer data (clicks on adverts, customer status, the channel through which you accessed the shop, etc.)

Beyond this, emetriq does not collect any personal data such as your name, address or date of birth.

Emetriq deletes the data after a maximum of 13 months.

How does emetriq collect data?
emetriq collects raw data from various partners and their websites. The raw data are collected by an emetriq script which is integrated into all of the data sources of the partners in line with the specifications of emetriq. Alternatively, a tracking pixel might be used. Most tracking pixels are images that are 1×1 pixel in size and are transparent or match the colour of the background to make them invisible. When a website containing a tracking pixel is opened, the small image is loaded from the server of the provider and the download is registered by the provider. This enables the provider of the pixel to see when and how many users retrieved that tracking pixel and visited a website.

The provider can also determine whether or not JavaScript is active in your browser. If JavaScript is active, other information such as your browser information, operating system and screen solution can be collected.

The raw data are pseudonymised in the user’s browser and then transmitted to the database. In this process, the IP address which is technically necessary for the split-second collection of data is then deleted immediately and not stored by emetriq in connection with the usage data it collected. All of the information collected about a user is stored exclusively with an automatically generated, random cookie ID. A cookie is a text file on your end device (e.g. computer) and is always associated with one browser. If you use two or more browsers on your end device, lots of cookies will be installed on your device. The cookie ID is an automatically generated, random ID which is created only once and therefore makes a browser unique. The ID consists of a sequence of numbers and does not contain any personal data. All of the information collected about a user is stored exclusively with this pseudonymised cookie ID. Due to the procedure described here, it is not technically possible to de-pseudonymise the collected raw data.

What can I do if I do not want my actions to be analysed by emetriq GmbH?

Opt-out
You can opt out of the collection and processing of data by emetriq here at any time: https://www.emetriq.com/opt-out/. This will cause your emetriq cookie to be replaced by a neutral opt-out cookie. This ensures that emetriq does not use your data. The websites www.meine-cookies.org and www.youronlinechoices.com provide more information about cookies and the individual providers. On these websites, you can even opt out of tailored online advertising by one or all companies at https://www.youronlinechoices.com/uk/your-ad-choices.

Settings in your browser
You can also configure your browser to block all cookies or delete the cookies at the end of your session. However, please note that in this case you might not be able to use all of the features of our website. You can find information on your browser settings at https://www.telekom.com/en/corporate-responsibility/data-protection-data-security/digitally-secure.

YouTube

To incorporate videos, we use a YouTube plugin operated by YouTube, LLC, based at 901 Cherry Ave, San Bruno, CA 94066, USA.

If you access one of our YouTube-enabled sites, the YouTube server will be informed about which page you have visited. If you are also logged in with your YouTube account, it will enable Google to match your surfing behavior directly to your personal profile. You can prevent this by logging out of your YouTube account.

You will find more information about the collection and use of your data by Google at www.google.de/intl/de/policies/privacy under the section about data privacy.
