GRP rebars receive CE approval

Durostone® FRP Rebars: sustainable alternative to steel

Röchling Industrial has received the CE mark for its Durostone® FRP Rebars in the field of construction products. The reinforcing bars made of fibre-reinforced Durostone® thus meet all applicable European requirements regarding safety, health and environmental protection for construction products in accordance with the EU Construction Products Regulation. After corresponding approvals in the USA and Canada, the product is now approved for the EU market. Durostone® FRP rebars are specially developed for demanding applications with aggressive influences, such as port construction or bridge and tunnel construction. They enable corrosion-free, high-strength and at the same time sustainable construction.

Suitable for particularly demanding environments

"We have developed the Durostone® FRP Rebars together with our partner ASA. TEC from our fibre-reinforced material. With the special properties of the material, the reinforcing bars are an economical and sustainable alternative to steel," explains Philipp Burgemeister, Composites Business Development, Röchling Industrial. Durostone® FRP rebars are around a quarter lighter than conventional steel reinforcement and at the same time have a two to three times higher tensile strength, which reduces transport costs and enables easier handling. The permanent alkali and chemical resistance, even in demanding environments, reduces maintenance and repair costs. In addition, the high durability ensures that the required concrete cover is reduced and can therefore be built slimmer and with less resources.

This makes Durostone® FRP Rebars a high-performance replacement for rebar made of stainless steel, epoxy coated steel, galvanized steel and black steel or reinforcing steel. Typical areas of application are bridge and tunnel construction, underground car parks as well as multi-storey car parks, port facilities or industrial plants for aggressive chemical media.
