Plant in Wolfsburg-Hattorf sold to Japanese automotive supplier Kasai Kogyo

About 170 employees will be taken over, investments in location planned

Mannheim, 7 May 2019… The Röchling Automotive SE & Co. KG, based in Mannheim, entered into an agreement with Japanese automotive supplier and component manufacturer Kasai Kogyo Co., Ltd to sell its plant in Wolfsburg-Hattorf. While Röchling is concentrating on its core business with the sale, Kasai Kogyo is continuing its global growth course in Europe. The parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price.

The 13,000 square meter plant in Wolfsburg-Hattorf, built in 2001, produces door and side panels for automobiles. However, Röchling Automotive has increasingly focused on systems and components for aerodynamics, propulsion and new mobility in recent years. The sale of the plant thus concludes a process initiated by the plastics specialist in 2011. "We are investing the proceeds in new mobility," emphasized Erwin Doll, Vice-chairman of the Röchling Group and responsible for the Automotive division.

The sale of the plant will affect about 170 employees. Kasai Kogyo is taking over the entire business operations and thus all employees. No job losses are anticipated. Both companies want the transaction to ensure the continuity and quality of the plant. Kasai Kogyo has already announced its intention to invest in the location and the existing business. "We stand by our responsibility to all employees. This is why a long-term perspective for the plant was important to us. With Kasai Kogyo, we have found a company to be the right partner," said Doll.

Röchling Automotive belongs to the Mannheim-based Röchling Group and is thus part of a family business with more than 9,700 employees at 90 locations worldwide. In 2017, Röchling recorded sales of more than EUR 1.8 billion with its Industrial, Automotive and Medical divisions. Röchling will celebrate its 200th anniversary in 2022. Kasai Kogyo was founded in 1946 and is based in Samukawa, Japan. Operating as a public listed company, Kasai Kogyo employs more than 8,800 employees at 47 locations worldwide and generated sales of almost EUR 1.8 billion in 2017.
